Lafayette's Walker Wood picks Kentucky

Walker Wood attemps a pass

Lexington (KY.) Lafayette junior quarterback Walker Wood committed to Kentucky earlier this week. The 6-foot, 190-pound prospect previous added offers from Louisville and Cincinnati this summer.

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops was on hand a few weeks ago to see Wood and his teammates, Landon Young (2016 OL commit) and Jedrick Wills (2017 5-star prospect).  Shortly after seeing Wood's performance (over 300 yards of total offense and four touchdowns), the Kentucky staff offered Wood.

Thursday Wood decided to make his decision to commit to Kentucky.

It's unclear what role Wood will play at Kentucky at this time, as the Wildcats also have a commitment from Florida quarterback Mac Jones in the same class. Wood's athleticism makes him a versatile prospect for Kentucky who could fit in at multiple positions for the Wildcats.

However Wood told The Courier Journal's John Hale that he will compete at the quarterback position when he arrives at Kentucky.

“They’ve given me the opportunity to go in and compete at the quarterback spot,” Wood told Hale. “That’s my goal, and I’m going to work my butt off to go and do that.”

Wood has thrown for over 1400 yards this season and rushed for nearly 1000 yards so far with the playoffs looming for his team.
